The steps, in short

  1. Save the form to your phoneFrom email or a messaging app: open the PDF and choose Save to Files or Download.
  2. Add it to the tool aboveAny fields appear below the pages.
  3. Type on the pageTap the page: it opens enlarged. Turn the phone sideways to see the lines better.
  4. Save, sign, sendDownload the completed PDF, sign it if needed and send it as a document.

Why it often doesn't work in your PDF reader

Phone PDF viewers show the document, but many don't save what you type in the fields, or save it only on your device without fixing the values. The recipient then gets a blank form. More in Completed PDF form shows up blank.

On iPhone there's also Markup

In the Files app, open the PDF and tap the Markup icon: you can add text and a signature. That's fine for a short form; the tool here helps when the form has fields.
