Completed PDF form shows up blank for the recipient
In short
A PDF form's fields are a separate layer that some programs (phone viewers, email previews, some portals) don't show. The fix: fill in the form with the tool below and leave “Flatten” ticked, so the values become part of the page.
Do it right here
Why it happens
- The program you filled it in didn't save the values in the file, only on your screen.
- The values were saved but without a visible appearance; the recipient's program can't draw them.
- The recipient opens the PDF in a viewer that ignores form fields.
- The form is a dynamic XFA form that only displays properly in Adobe Reader.
How to fix it
- Add the form to the tool above. Values already entered appear in the fields.
- Check or complete the fields.
- Leave “Flatten the form” ticked and download the PDF.
- Open the result in a browser or on a phone: if the values show there, they'll show everywhere.
When not to flatten
If the recipient processes the field data automatically (some official forms do) or if it's an XFA form, send it exactly as requested. Check PDF tells you what kind of form you have.
