What you need to know

When a PDF under 1 MB is required

The 1 MB limit turns up on older online forms, some application systems and fields for a single document such as an ID copy. It's tight for phone photos but easy to reach for one to five scanned pages.

How realistic it is for your document

  • 1 to 3 scanned or photographed pages: almost always, with the text still readable.
  • 4 to 10 scanned pages: usually, with the Strong level or with pages saved as images.
  • More than 10 colour pages: hard without visible loss. Remove pages that weren't asked for, or split the document.

How the target is reached

The tool saves the images at gradually lower quality until the file fits. If that's not enough, it saves the pages as low-resolution images. At the end it tells you whether the target was reached.
